 VFX supervisor here and I would easily estimate that executing a sequence like that to the level that a Christopher Nolan film demands...definitely a $2M+ VFX sequence there and would likely be worked on by a team of 20+ people for several months. The initial setup and R&D isn't that awful, but a guy like Nolan isn't going to be happy with your 3rd version of the effect and this thing is going to be scrutinized.

 Reminds me of that one video he had of a bike lock somebody sent in because a locksmith had to wreck the lock and the person that hired him called LPL a hack. The dude bet the locksmith LPL could get it open faster. The total time of the video was longer than the locksmith took, but LPL spent like 2/3s of the video setting up the story before absolutely flexing.
