My current screensaver is a pic someone posted on a subreddit. No, it’s not the norm. Really you can just grab any picture from anywhere and use it as a screensaver it’s not like anyone would know. But that also makes it worth noting, to me at least, that someone took the extra step to ask OP to use the picture which also shows they appreciate it for its artistic merit.
